Abstract Submission Guidelines

The Singapore Society of Oncology (SSO), founded in 1981, is a professional medical organisation for all Singapore healthcare professionals who treat and manage cancer patients. The aim of the SSO is to provide an active platform to promote the practice of oncology through education, research, collaborations, and partnerships with local, regional, and international organisations.   

The SSO is committed to providing continued medical education (CME) and other opportunities for the cancer specialist community to further enhance their knowledge, skills, and expertise in the rapidly evolving practice of oncology. The SSO will also represent the views of the society and its members in public forums and debates.

Guidelines

We are calling for abstract submissions in various oncological tracks. We accept abstracts previously submitted to other conferences in the past 12 months, but authors must ensure that their abstract submission does not infringe on copyright of the original conference. 

 The top 3 abstracts will be awarded Best Abstract Prizes as selected by the Programme Committee. 

Abstract Details

Word limit: 500 words, not including title, authors, and affiliations 

  • Standard abbreviations may be used undefined, but non-standard abbreviations must be defined. Arabic numerals should be used for numbers except when beginning a sentence. 
  • Abstracts should disclose primary findings and should not include promissory statements such as “Results will be discussed.” 
  • No changes can be made to abstracts once the abstract submission deadline has passed. 
  • Presenting authors of accepted abstracts must be registered and paid participants. Registration must be received by the Secretariat by the Presenting Author Registration Deadline to ensure inclusion of the abstract in the meeting publications and in order to be scheduled for presentation. 
  • The submitting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission. 
  • The Scientific Committee will determine the presentation type of each accepted abstract, with consideration given to the author’s preference. The committee’s decision is final. 

All Abstracts must be submitted electronically. All submissions must be original work that has not been previously published. A submitter, presenter or co-author submitting or presenting published work will lead to the withdrawal of the abstract from the Scientific Programme. 

  • Please note that the Primary Contact should be the Presenting Author. 
  • If the abstract is accepted for presentation, the Presenting Author must acknowledge the abstract acceptance and register for the meeting before the stipulated deadline, failing which the abstract will be withdrawn.  

  • Presenter Acceptance Deadline: 29 August 2025 
  • Registration Deadline: 5 September 2025  

  • Multiple submissions from one person on behalf of multiple presenting authors are NOT allowed. If you are submitting the abstract on behalf of the presenting author, please enter the presenting author’s information as the Primary Contact.

Abstract Title: 

  • The abstract title must not exceed 75 words in length. 
  • The title must be typed in title case, except for study names. 
  • Do not use abbreviations in the title. 
  • Do not end the title with a period. 
  • Do not include authors, institutions, city names, trademarks and abbreviations in the title. 

Abstract Format: 

Abstracts should be organised in the following format: 

  • Introduction 
  • Methods 
  • Results
  • Conclusion 

Abstract Body: 

  • All abstracts must be submitted (and will be presented) in English spelling with accurate grammar and spelling suitable for publication. 
  • The word limit is 500 words (does not include title and authors). 
  • When using non-standard abbreviations, spell them out in full the first time they appear in the text followed by the abbreviations in parentheses. 
  • Capitalise the first letter of trade names. 
  • Do NOT enter author or affiliation information in the abstract text box. 
  • The Programme Committee reviews and grades each abstract submission for quality and scientific merit. A blind grading process is used to ensure anonymity and equality. 
  • Notifications of abstract acceptance will be sent to the Presenting Author by 22 August 2025. 

Travel grants are available for students, trainees, residents, fellows (MD, Postdoc) or individuals with a professional degree within three years of faculty appointment in developing countries (listed on World Bank). This award provides the opportunity for presenters of high-rated abstracts from developing countries to grow professionally by attending the sessions, networking and developing professional relationships with colleagues from around the world. 

Deadline for application of Travel Grants: 31 July 2025, 23:59 GMT +8 

Grant Objectives: 

To provide funding support for a trainee or consultant from overseas to come to Singapore to attend the SSO ASM 2025 conference.  

Information for Applicants: 

  • The grant call will be held yearly, with a maximum of 10 awards per call (4 case presenters, 6 abstract presenters)
  • The reimbursement includes full registration fees for attending SSO ASM 2025. 
  • The support is for air tickets, conference registration, and other administrative fees; accommodation is permitted if it is within the grant quantum of $1200. 
  • Applicant must be a speaker or abstract presenter.  

Terms and Conditions:  

  • Priority will be given to regional APAC presenters.
  • Students, trainees, residents, fellows (MD, Postdoc) or individuals with a professional degree within three years of faculty appointment (e.g. you must be appointed to faculty after 2 October, 2022) or equivalent training based in home country.
  • Submit (as presenter) and have an accepted abstract for SSO ASM 2025.
  • Reimbursement for expenses incurred is based on submitting original receipts and certificates of attendance.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who have not attended SSO ASM previously.
  • The decision of the Organising Committee is final.

  2. Verification of your current trainee status, and/or proof of date of training completion
  3. If applicable, proof of date of initial faculty appointment
